Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is set to land a role on the board of directors for Euro 2028, it has been claimed. The 32-year-old is expected to combine playing Premier League football with organising the tournament in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.

The British isles nations won the bid to host the next European Championship two years ago after Turkey withdrew from contention. However, unlike the four other countries, Northern Ireland are not hosting any matches as planned, and would therefore not be eligible for automatic qualification.

FA chairperson Debbie Hewitt is going to name her board of directors this weekend for Euro 2028 and Mings is in the running for a position, according to The Telegraph. Mings is set to hold a non-executive role as part of a team that will bring 51 matches in the space of a month in three years' time.

Mings, who has been capped 18 times by England, last played for his country almost two years ago. While he is anticipated to still be playing in 2028, when he is 35, there is a slim chance that he will feature for England at the next Euros. He earned his most recent cap against Malta in June 2023.

If Mings is to secure the role, it will be another accolade to add to the impressive list of activities he has done away from the football pitch. The centre-back was once named in Forbes' '30 Under 30' list to recognise 'young visionaries', after working with Prince William in an initiative to end homelessness.

Mings also has a football academy in Birmingham and is director of interior-design company KTM. Back in November 2021, he was awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Education by Bath Spa University in a ceremony which was entertaining, inspiring and moving, having been born and raised in Bath.

On the pitch, Mings returned to action in October after almost 15 months out with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury. The former Ipswich Town and Bournemouth star suffered the problem against Newcastle United on the opening day of the 2023/24 and required surgery to fix the issue.

However, Mings was back in the Villa starting XI when he played the Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Crystal Palace. He has since featured 17 times for Unai Emery's side this season and was impressive in the Champions League at Club Brugge last month, making a number of crucial interventions.
