Everton have the chance to bolster their ranks with some signings this summer

Everton have an exciting new era on the horizon as they prepare to move into their new stadium. David Moyes was picked as their replacement for Sean Dyche earlier this winter.

Moyes has done an impressive job since his return to Goodison Park. He has managed to guide them away from trouble and away from the bottom three.

The Toffees have the chance to bring in some new signing this summer to bolster their ranks. They also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door later this year too.

Everton targeting Koni De Winter

According to TEAMtalk, Genoa defender Koni De Winter has emerged as a ‘top target’ for Everton. The report adds that Wolves and Inter Milan are also interested in the player.

De Winter, 22, started his career with spells at City Pirates Antwerp, Lierse and Zulte Waregem before Juventus came calling. He was a regular for Juve’s reserve side and went on to play twice for their first-team before heading out the exit door.

The Belgium international, who has made two caps for his country so far, was loaned out to Empoli and Genoa by the Turin club to get some experience under his belt. He was then given the green light to join the latter on a permanent basis last year.

De Winter has since become one of their most prized assets and his long-term future is up in the air. They will now face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from Everton and others. He is valued at £10million on Transfermarkt and is under contract until June 2028.

Would Koni Winter suit Everton?

De Winter would give Everton more competition and depth at the back if they managed to get him. If they were to lose Jarrad Branthwaite, they would need to get a replacement.

The Toffees will need to be shrewd with their recruitment as they look to bring in the right players. Moyes said back in January: "I'm really jealous of watching a lot of teams who can maybe attempt to go for a lot of players at expensive prices. At the moment we're not in that buyers' market. We've still got a little bit of work to do [on PSR].

"What I really want to bring to Everton just now is not really what I can do. As a manager, you always want to sign the best players you possibly can. I want to sign people who I think the supporters will be excited by and just at the moment we're all just a little bit hindered with what's been left over."

He added: “Everton's a huge football club and it should be competing with many of the big clubs in the country and hopefully spending in a way where it's right and challenging for the big players that are out there and available."

The 3am Verdict: De Winter looks to be a bright talent and he could be a shrewd signing for Everton if they managed to get him. He would give them another option to pick from in defence. Wolves and Inter Milan have also been mentioned as suitors though so they would need to see off competition from elsewhere if they were to land his signature.
