Mbappe and Tchouameni play 120 minutes in penalty shootout win vs Croatia

[Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) forward Kylian Mbappe and midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni played the full 120 minutes of France’s Nations League win against Croatia as they beat Luka Modric and company on penalties.

Modric was subbed off in the 83rd minute of the match, and Eduardo Camavinga came on in the second half of extra time.

Mbappe had so many chances to score in the second half, but every time it was either the shot that was an inch wide, or the final pass to Ousmane Dembele that was not well-received enough.

He combined very well with his teammates though. He threaded a brilliant through ball to Olise, who crossed it to Dembele for France’s second of the night. He took eight shots. Five of them were off target, and three of them were wonderfully saved by Livakovic, who was incredible on the night. Mbappe did score the penalty, though, but only just.

Modric did not have the worst game of his career, but it was not his best either. He uncharacteristically gave the ball away twice in dangerous areas, but France were not able to capitalise on it.

Defensively, he had a lot to do. Sometimes, he was successful — he ended the game with three tackles, one block and two clearances — but he was also dribbled past five times on the night.

Modric had one key pass, 66 touches, 44 passes completed (88%). Not the best, but not the worst.

Tchouameni was more involved than any other Real Madrid player on the pitch, as he had 122 touches, 102 passes on 89% accuracy (91 completed). He was also heavily involved in the box, taking four shots — most of them headers from crosses — as he kept winning one aerial battle after the other.

Defensively, Tchouameni did not have much to do at the start, as the French dominated possession from the start to the end, but Tchouameni did have three interceptions, two clearances and four tackles. He won 15 of his 19 duels. He also scored his penalty.

Eduardo Camavinga came on in the second half of extra-time and played very close to the box, but he did not have a lot to do.

This brings an end to the international break for all four players involved in this tie, and thankfully everyone will come back without any injury setback. Mbappe and Tchouameni have played every single minute of the international break, but luckily they will have five days of rest before they dress up in white on Saturday.
