Cairo: A rainy weather experienced by some areas of Saudi Arabia is expected to continue until next week's Eid Al Fitr festival, a meteorologist has said.
The Eid, expected to begin on March 29, follows the current lunar holy month of Ramadan.
Aqeel Al Aqeel, a weather analyst at the Saudi National Centre (NCM) for Meteorology, said this weather condition, which began in early Ramadan, is anticipated to continue until the Eid.
He forecast moderate-to- heavy rainfall especially in the central and eastern highlands of the kingdom as well as in the Mecca region.
NCM has warned of thunderstorms, hail, and visibility-reducing winds in parts of seven regions in the kingdom from Sunday.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by hail and active winds, will affect parts of the Eastern Province, Riyadh, Najran, Jizan, Asir, Al Baha, and Mecca, according to NCM.
Active winds, causing sandstorms in parts of Al Qassim and Medina as well as in coastal parts of the Tabuk region, are likely.
Several areas in western Saudi Arabia including Mecca saw at the weekend heavy rains.
A video reposted by Mecca authorities, showed pilgrims continuing to perform their rituals in the Grand Mosque, Islam's holiest, amid heavy rainfall.
Last week, the Saudi port city of Jeddah was lashed by downpours that resulted in floods.
Footage on social media showed flash floods following torrential rains north east of Jeddah.
