GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Monday marks one month before the start of the NFL Draft in Titletown, and on Sunday, the excitement continued to build with the television network ESPN in the area shooting at some popular locations to set the stage for the big event.
It was packed at The Pancake Place in Green Bay, and that doesn’t even include the lighting equipment and cameras being used by ESPN to film their “Open For The NFL Draft” special that will air the day of the draft.
“They picked a good spot and it’s very big. Probably good for the people that work here and the people that own it. It’s probably inspiring. Always been one of the hotspots for breakfast here in Green Bay,” said Jack Waite of Green Bay.
Waite, one of the customers waiting to get a table, saw the opportunity on the business’s Facebook page.
“Calling all Pancake Place and Packer fans. We need your help. ESPN will be filming from The Pancake Place.”
The creative content managing producer for ESPN says that she came in the day before and realized how special the pancake place was to the city of Green Bay.
“Trying to figure out what place embodies the community, and we came here for breakfast yesterday. Did a little talking with the community, folks here and figured out this was the spot. It’s got the right atmosphere and the right crowd,” said Amanda Paschal.
Alex Warner, one of the staff at The Pancake Place, said that this moment gave them a taste of what they could expect during that time.
“They’re having so much success for a reason and I don’t think they would’ve selected Green Bay as the draft site if they didn’t think we were capable of it. We’re going to have road closures starting here in about a week that’ll be out for a month. That impacts my family and stuff, but I think it’s kind of worth the sacrifice,” said Warner.
The Pancake Place is planning to increase staff and extend hours during the draft.
