Arsenal Are‘Preparing’A Bid For£63M Isak Alternative Despite“Doubts”About His Ability

Arsenal are lining up an offer for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Tabloid the Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness) claim that the Gunners are “preparing” a “decisive raid” to secure the Swedish international’s services.

Sporting are said to be willing to offload Gyokeres for a fee significantly lower than his €100m (£84m) release clause despite the fact that he has scored 40 goals in all competitions this season.

The Correio da Manha say a bid in the region of €75m (£63m) is likely to be accepted for the 26-year-old when the transfer window reopens.

Gyokeres is in high demand

Considering how prolific he has been in front of goal this campaign, it is not a surprise that the forward is attracting the interest of clubs across Europe.

Manchester United have been mentioned as one of his main suitors in recent weeks but it has been suggested that Gyokeres would prefer to sign for a team like Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City if he were to move back to England this summer.

The Arsenal target has his critics

Despite his outstanding form, some have questioned whether Gyokeres has the ability to play in the Premier League. Speaking exclusively to Man U News last week, two-time Golden Boot winner Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said he has his “doubts” about the player.

Some Gunners fans may agree with him. Many are hoping that the club go after Newcastle’s Alexander Isak instead. The 25-year-old is very much Premier League proven but Gyokeres is likely to be available for less than half the price.

With manager Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen other positions, the decision could be made to buy the Sporting striker so they can devote resources to bringing in more signings.
