Alexander Isak in action for Newcastle.
Newcastle United are understood to be relaxed about Alexander Isak's future.
Newcastle United will not receive contact from Barcelona regarding Alexander Isak anytime soon, according to the latest reports from Spain.
That is said to be because the Catalan giants will prioritise renewing their current players' contracts right now - rather than potential summer signings. Frenkie De Jong, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski are among the players set to leave the club at the end of next season if they do not sign extensions.
Isak would, seemingly, be a like-for-like replacement for Poland star Lewandowski, but reports in Spain indicate Barcelona want to keep the centre-forward for another 12 months. Contract negotiations will also be a focus for Newcastle once this history-making campaign concludes.
Chronicle Live understands that Isak and his representatives will sit down with the club at the end of the season and negotiate the details of a proposed new deal - with the club relaxed about his future amid the belief that no club can afford to sign their player - while Isak has also acknowledged his focus is on the present.
The striker told Fotbollskanalen.se while with the Sweden team during March's international break: "From within the club and from our side, there are absolutely no discussions. It's just full focus on playing for me.
"There's a lot of writing outside, but no one is talking about anything like that within the club."
However, the 25-year-old also conceded: "It's clear that it's hard to avoid everything written on social media."
The latest speculation comes from Barcelona-based newspaper SPORT. They reckon the Catalan club have put pursuing potential signings on hold because of their ongoing struggle to comply with La Liga squad cost limits, although their long-standing reported interest in Isak is also acknowledged.
