Manchester United will likely reinforce their attacking department this summer.
A marquee striker could be one of the top priorities with only 37 goals scored from 29 Premier League games this campaign.
Manager Ruben Amorim may also want a new addition behind the centre-forward and Francisco Trincao seems the top target.
The 40-year-old is determined to reunite with the Portuguese winger, who has made 24 goal contributions for Sporting CP this term.
Trincao’s contract expires at the end of next season and it has been reported that Sporting CP could be persuaded to sell him for £30 million.
The 25-year-old’s career had reached a standstill after a forgettable loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 2021/22 season.
He looked out of his depth in the Premier League with just three goal involvements in 28 games.
However, Amorim transformed his career at Sporting CP under Amorim, initially on loan from Barcelona.
Trincao has now become one of Portugal’s leading forwards and showed his class on Sunday with two game-changing goals off the bench.
Portugal were barely a threat from out wide until Trincao’s 81st minute introduction.
The hosts were trailing 3-2 on aggregate to Denmark in the second leg of the Nations League quarter-final before Trincao turned around things.
The right-sided winger equalised in the 86th minute with a powerful low strike from the edge of the box.
In the first minute of extra time, Trincao showed his positional awareness. He was in the right spot to make it 4-3 on aggregate for Portugal.
The attacker surprisingly did not win a single duel (0/5) or dribble (0/3) in 39 minutes, but made his mark where it mattered with two key goals.
His goalscoring instinct is something which United lack and need to address this summer. Trincao should be reunited with Amorim in our opinion.
He would be an upgrade on Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman has impressed with his link-up play lately, but has lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.
The former Bologna man has just eight goal contributions this campaign.
Trincao would be a better acquisition, given he has already adapted to the manager’s tactics. He could make an instant impact for the Red Devils.
