'A bit lost...'- Portuguese media react to Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot displays vs Denmark

Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were involved in a seven-goal thriller for Portugal.

There are currently 12 Manchester United players on international duty and five of them featured in Portugal’s 5-2 win over Denmark on Sunday evening.

Denmark took a lead into the second leg after Rasmus Hojlund starred against Portugal and scored in a 1-0 win.

Diogo Dalot was made to eat his words after Hojlund sunk Portugal, but it was Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes who had the last laugh on Sunday.

Fellow United teammate Christian Eriksen missed a penalty in the first leg but he got himself on the scoresheet this time around. Red Devils legend Cristiano Ronaldo also scored for Portugal.

While Eriksen, Hojlund and Patrick Dorgu started for Denmark, Fernandes and Dalot both started for Portugal.

Fernandes played the entire 120 minutes of the match after it went into extra time, while Dalot was replaced just after the 80-minute mark.

With Portugal now through to the semi-finals, the national media reacted to the displays of United’s duo.

Portuguese outlet A Bola gave Dalot a 5/10 rating and added: “Always very willing in the compensations, he saved Portugal several times due to his precision in the tackles and then showed great passing to get the team going again.

“However, he did not escape a huge scare when, from a throw-in, he served Hjulmand who came close to making it 1-1. He lost steam, to the same extent that he accumulated marking errors in the second half.

As for Fernandes, he was given a 7/10 rating as one of Portugal’s better players.

They wrote: “He seemed a bit lost in the Danish pressure for most of the first half, until, from a corner he converted, he saw the ball fly to Andersen’s head and go straight into the goal.

“He was also instrumental in Portugal ‘s second goal, shooting against the post and seeing Ronaldo tap in the rebound to make it 2-1.”
