Doctors conducting door-to-door survey to identify cases of various cancers, at Balabhadrapuram village in Bikkavolu mandal in East Godavari district on Sunday.
Experts from the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC) in Visakhapatnam have been roped in to identify the factors behind the rise in various cancer cases at Balabhadrapuram village in Bikkavolu mandal in East Godavari district.
The officials swung into action after Anaparthi MLA Nallamilli Rama Krishna sought field-level investigation into the spread of cancer in the Balabhadrapuram, where over 20 persons are suffering from various cancers, including cervical and breast cancers. The Medical and Health authorities and doctors from the Rangaraya Medical College have launched a door-to-door survey in the village to document the number of cancer cases.
“A team of doctors from the Home Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre will conduct the field-level study in the Balabhadrapuram to identify the factors behind the cancer cases. Water and air quality experts will also carry out a separate study in Bikkavolu mandal,” East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi told _The Hindu_.
On the ongoing door-to-door survey, Ms. Prasanthi added that at least 19 more persons have reported symptoms of various cancers in the Balabhadrapuram and they are yet to be diagnosed.
