Ronaldo joins Salah, Kane, Yilmaz, Aguero, Modric and more as Kasper Schmeichel strikes again

Kasper Schmeichel saved the 25th penalty of his career last night as he dived low to his left to stop a poor effort from Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.

The penalty came in the opening minutes of a Nations League Play Off with the two captains who have been involved at the top level for over 40 years.

After winning the home leg 1-0 the Danes lost 5-2 after extra-time but up until an 86th minute goal from substitute Francisco Trincao the Danes were on their way to the last four of the competition. The Danes won 3-2 on the night then scored twice in extra-time.

As far as Celtic fans are concerned Schmeichel’s most famous penalty save came from Ridvan Yilmaz in the League Cup Final in December, paving the way for Daizen Maeda to win the trophy.

According to Transfermarkt the legendary Dane has saved penalties from Wilfried Zaha, Mo Salah, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Luka Modric, Romelu Lukaku and Robin van Persie.

Schmeichel will return to Glasgow today to resume his club career with Celtic looking to add two more trophies to give their experienced keeper a clean sweep of Scottish honours in his first season at the club.
