Worrying Times for Sheffield United

It’s all looking good for Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United side as they aim to cemented automatic promotion to the Premier League – bouncing back from their relegation last season. However, things aren’t as good at the other end for the Sheffield United Women’s side who are staring relegation from the Championship in the face following another abysmal result.

They suffered a [4-0 defeat on the road at London City Lionesses](https://www.sufc.co.uk/news/2025/march/23/lionesses-4-0-women-report/), who they themselves are battling for promotion to the Women’s Super League – leaving the Blades rooted firmly to the bottom of the league in what has been a worrying season for the Women’s side. Relegation would see them join the FA Women’s National League North and could be replaced by Nottingham Forest Women, who are currently leading their division.

In July 2024, [Ash Thompson was recruited as new coach](https://www.sufc.co.uk/news/2024/july/19/ash-steps-up/), having stepped up from the Under-21s side, and has won one Championship match this season since his arrival. This came in a 2-1 victory at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers Women on 20th October. Since then, they haven’t won in eight league matches – though they have picked up three draws.

Following yesterday’s defeat, the Blades lay bottom of the league having accumulated nine points. The Women have four fixtures remaining for the 2024/25 season. If they are to retain their place in the Championship, they must pick up more points than either Blackburn Rovers or Portsmouth, who currently have 8 points, and 9 points respectively.
