A look at some of the players who are most likely to leave Arsenal this summer.
Arsenal have a big summer ahead, with pressure likely to start building on Mikel Arteta to finally deliver that illusive Premier League title, especially if more money is spent on new signings.
New signings are almost inevitable, but that will mean there will also need to be departures, and with that in mind, we have taken a look at some of the most likely departures at the Emirates Stadium this summer, along with some departures that are not so likely.
The 6 players who will leave Arsenal this summer
We already know Kieran Tierney will join Celtic at the end of his contract this summer, and he will be the first to clear out his locker at London Colney. Elsewhere, Jorginho is set to follow, with his contract also up and unlikely to be extended. The midfielder is expected to leave for Brazil, but what is clear is that he will move on barring any surprises. Thomas Partey is the most likely to get a new deal of those out of terms.
Raheem Sterling will head back to Chelsea after his loan spell, there is little doubt about that, while Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga will both leave the club this summer after their loan deals with Lazio and Sevilla respectively. It would be a big surprise if any of those players stayed put. We will also put Jakub Kiwior in this section, given he has been heavily linked with an exit and seldom used. It’s very likely he will depart, and while Oleksandr Zinchenko is also likely to leave, his situation is less cut and dry due to Arsenal likely wanting a fair price tag.
The 3 players who won’t leave Arsenal this summer
Gabriel Jesus has been linked with an exit, but his departure will now be delayed, even if it was on the cards, given he ruptured his ACL, an injury that will keep him out until close to the end of the calendar year. If the Brazilian is going to be sold, it’s not going to be until the January transfer window.
It’s a very similar case for Takehiro Tomiyasu, who required a corrective surgical procedure for an injury that he couldn’t seem to get over. His knee injury is now likely to keep him out until the autumn, and he is not going to pass a medical even if there is interest in his services this summer.
Leandro Trossard is another player we will include here. The Belgium hasn’t necessarily been linked with an exit, but there has been plenty of talk of Arsenal’s need to strengthen out wide given their lack of depth. By signing a new winger, Arsenal are essentially admitting to the fact they are not happy with falling back on Trossard as a starter if one of Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli is injured, and they are not wrong in their belief, but it doesn’t mean the Belgian will be sold. He is still decent cover and a good enough player to come off the bench, and Arteta is likely to keep him for that reason, even if more attackers are procured.
