Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has ignited a feud with Real Madrid wonderkid Arda Guler, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the past year.

The pair clashed during the second-leg of Turkey’s 6-1 aggregate win over Hungary in the Nations League play-offs, with Guler shushing the Liverpool star after netting his country’s second goal of the night.

However, Szoboszlai hit back at the 20-year-old after the game. An image of Guler’s gesture towards the Liverpool midfielder was shared by Hungarian news outlet Nemzeti Sport" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DHjuu85tG02/?img_index=1" target="_blank">Nemzeti Sport, which prompted Szoboszlai to reply with a savage dig towards the Turkey youngster.

The 24-year-old simply commented: “1088”, referencing the exact number of minutes that Guler has played across all competitions for Real Madrid so far this season.

The Turkey international has been unable to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s preferred starting XI at the Santiago Bernabeu this campaign, amid significant competition for places, and he has been an unused substitute in 17 matches since the beginning of 2024-25.

Szoboszlai, by comparison, has been an integral member of Arne Slot’s high-flying Liverpool side, racking up just shy of 3,000 minutes in all competitions.

Although Szoboszlai’s dig at Guler may be forgotten about quickly, Liverpool could opt against pursuing a deal for the Turkey wonderkid as a result of their feud.

The Reds will be eager to avoid in-fighting within the camp at Anfield and may therefore decide against signing Guler, despite significant interest in the 20-year-old.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Guler in recent months, amid his uncertain future at Real Madrid, but they are currently focused on securing the signings of Martin Zubimendi" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/02/arsenal-transfer-news-martin-zubimendi-real-sociedad-steve-kay-exclusive" target="_blank">Martin Zubimendi, Nico Williams" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/03/exclusive-arsenal-transfer-news-nico-williams-financial-advantage-steve-kay" target="_blank">Nico Williams, Sverre Nypan" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/02/exclusive-arsenal-sverre-nypan-record-transfer-fee" target="_blank">Sverre Nypan and a prolific centre forward" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/02/exclusive-arsenal-to-launch-fresh-ollie-watkins-bid-in-thrilling-strike-force-overhaul" target="_blank">a prolific centre forward.

Inter Milan may enter the race for his signature this summer as well, with Hakan Calhanoglu recently admitting that he would love to play with his international team-mate at club level.
