'A great night for Dan Burn' - Lee Ryder's Wembley verdict
Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento will not feature for England tonight at Wembley against Latvia.
The Toon full-back was an unused substitute in Friday's 2-0 win over Albania on the night Dan Burn made his Three Lions debut and Anthony Gordon suffered an injury. Only Blyth lad Burn stands a chance of facing Latvia this evening though after Gordon left the camp over the weekend for a scan.
The ex-Everton man suffered a hip injury in Group K victory beneath the Wembley arch and he has been assessed back on Tyneside. Gordon suspended for the Magpies' next Premier League game against Brentford in any case so has extra time to recover from his Wembley whack.
Livramento is not injured but UEFA rules state that a 23-man squad must be selected for each game and the Newcastle defender has not made the cut. Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Liverpool defender Jarrel Quansah both return to the 23-man roster after missing out against Albania.
England boss Thomas Tuchel spoke about rotating his squad when meeting the media on Sunday. Tuchel said: "We will take the opportunity, of course, to check who's available and we have some good, good players on the bench, who came on today or did not even play, so we have our options."
It remains to be seen whether Burn starts against Latvia for his second cap. But looking back on his debut at 32 years of age, Burn told Chronicle Live exclusively: "It was a great day for me on Friday to make my England debut but it has just been a great week. I think the adrenalin carried me through the game at times because it has been a pretty quick turnaround.
"I felt pretty calm throughout and I wasn't nervous. I was just looking forward to it. The second half I tired a little bit so my performance dipped a little bit so I was disappointed. But all round I could not have asked for more."
