'One to watch out for'Declan Rice calls Arsenal wonderkid'best in the country'

Declan Rice believes the future is bright for both Arsenal and England because of the players coming through the Gunners' academy from Hale End to London Colney.

Despite being teenagers, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have combined to make 55 first-team appearances this season. Both are also receiving international recognition this month.

Lewis-Skelly had a dream senior debut at Wembley Stadium on Friday night after scoring the opening goal and being named player of the match. Barely an hour later, Nwaneri also made a first appearance for the under-21s on his 18th birthday, with Rice full of praise for both.

The midfielder called Lewis-Skelly's debut "incredible" during an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live . "He's done exactly what he's been doing for Arsenal," Rice explained. "He's been fearless and confident in his own ability.

"Even just speaking to some of the lads here, they're really taken back by his confidence, but in a good way, in terms of how he handles himself and steps up to the occasion. Usually, you get a lot of 18-year-olds who will make their debut and maybe be a bit shy, but the way he carried himself in the changing room, he was even talking before the game.

"It was just really, really impressive, and he's got that about him; I've seen it all season at Arsenal and said it early on: 'This kid's gonna be special'. He was amazing the other night, and to score probably topped off one of the best nights of his life."

Asked how exciting it is for club and country, having team-mates coming into the national team, Rice proclaimed: "It's unbelievable times. I can't even talk highly enough of Ethan [Nwaneri] as well; just wait until, hopefully, he gets into the team and the lads get to see him because he's a special talent."

Max Dowman was also named in the same breath as those two, with Rice acknowledging: "Max is the best 15-year-old in the country. I've had so many texts about Max recently, where people have just watched him, saying: 'Wow, what a talent.'

"So he's one to watch out for, but at 15, there's still such a long way to go. You can be the best 15-year-old in the country, but that doesn't necessarily mean at 18 you're going to be.

"So you need to be hungry, keep working, keep pushing. I speak with Max a lot; he knows that and has such a good family around him. He's unreal."

Rice continued: "Arsenal are blessed to have three players that can potentially have long Arsenal careers. Luckily enough, I have a really good relationship with all three of them because Max gets to train with us quite a lot.

"I've taken them three under my wing a bit because I've been in that position before, and I had older players help me. I get on really well with all of them, and they're all really, really comfortable around me, which is all part of having a good relationship."
