Manager sends 'fantastic' Viktor Gyokeres message after being asked about Man United links

Manchester United have put themselves firmly in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

It is no secret that Manchester United have struggled for goals this season. Rasmus Hojlund ended a 21-game goal drought against Leicester City, while Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho have certainly not been scoring regularly either.

Ineos want to sign a star striker in the summer, and Ruben Amorim wants to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres following their incredibly successful spell together in Portugal.

Gyokeres is expected to cost £63m in the summer and United are in pole position to get a deal over the line.

However, the 26-year-old forward will likely want European football to make the move to Old Trafford.

Sweden manager on Viktor Gyokeres to Man United rumours

Gyokeres was sorely missed by Sweden in this week’s international fixtures, with Sweden suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to Luxembourg.

United star Victor Lindelof is one of 12 United internationals on duty this month, but he played no part in that defeat. He will hope to return to the starting lineup in their next match against Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.

In the build-up to the Northern Ireland clash, Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was asked about Viktor Gyokeres‘ links to United.

As quoted by The Mirror, Tomasson said: “Gyokeres would be fantastic in the Premier League.

“He could play for any club in the world and he would score a lot of goals anywhere. Him and Isak are two quite different players, but they’re both world-class strikers.”

Premier League rivals threaten Viktor Gyokeres deal

Gyokeres scored 66 goals in 68 games under Amorim, and that is a partnership that United fans would love to see rekindled at Old Trafford.

However, there are a few obstacles that make a deal for Gyokeres tricky, the first being finances. United have already spent £89m before the summer window has even opened, so there isn’t much PSR flexibility for Ineos to get a big-money deal over the line.

Secondly, United are not alone in their interest of Gyokeres. Reports from Portugal suggest Gyokeres prefers another Premier League move in the summer.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool are the three clubs Gyokeres would consider joining in the summer.

United’s struggles this season mean they could be without European football in 2025/26 and that would seriously dent the chances of landing Gyokeres.
