Hutchinson, 22, was given some minutes between the sticks. The likes of Kion Etete, Ricardo Santos and Kyle Dempsey also played a part to boost their fitness levels.

Speaking afterwards, Taylor said, as per the official club website: “He did really well. Once he settled down his distribution was really good, he was finding spare men, dropping things over the press, and made a couple of really good saves.

“It was brilliant to get some of the youth players on and I’m really pleased I got the opportunity to do that and to get them a little taste of it was really good.

“I’m grateful that we were able to do that for them and it will stick with them. There’s just a bit of an underlying tone of disappointment and it just feels like a bit of an anti-climax.”

His contract with the Trotters expires at the end of this campaign and they have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future.

The North West club run the risk of losing him for nothing in late June if they don’t strike an extension with him.

Bolton Wanderers are sat in 7th place in the League One table as they look to get into the play-offs.

They are a point behind Huddersfield Town in 6th with nine fixtures left to play this term.

Steven Schumacher was picked as their replacement for Ian Evatt and he has managed Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City in the past.

The Trotters lost 1-0 at home to Stockport County in their last match before the international break and they will want to bounce back. Next up is an away trip to Blackpool this weekend.
