Nelson Semedo responds when asked about potentially leaving Wolves to join Benfica this summer

Nelson Semedo has been asked about his future at Wolves while on international duty with Portugal.

The full-back stands to leave Molineux as a free agent this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.

The 31-year-old is in his fourth season with the club, but there is a growing feeling that it could be his last.

It was claimed that Semedo is likely to leave Wolves this summer, as the club seek to offload high earners.

Semedo has been the subject of interest from his former club Benfica recently, and that is something that may well appeal to to the player.

Wolves are still hopeful of Semedo staying, but whether an agreement can be reached over an extension is another thing.

Amid the speculation, Semedo was actually asked about his future while with the Portugal national team.

Recently, Benfica manager Bruno Lage wouldn’t be drawn on the speculation about Semedo.

And the Wolves ace took a similar stance when asked about his future and the links to Benfica, after Portugal’s win over Denmark in the Nations League semi-final on Sunday.

He is quoted by Mais Futebol as saying: “For now we are in the National Team. We finished the National Team now and it’s still too early to think about it.

“I still have a lot of time to think about it.”

Wolves must do their utmost to keep Semedo

Semedo was perhaps never likely to give too much away about his future in the mixed zone after an international match.

Or it’s possible he may genuinely still not know what he’s going to do.

But Wolves should be fighting hard to keep Semedo.

It seems an exit may be more likely at this point, but Wolves have to at least try to keep a player who has been very consistent over the last couple of years.

He struggled a bit in his first season in England as he adapted to the Premier League.

Appearances – 173

Goals – 3

Assists – 10

But these days, Semedo is a reliable performer for Wolves, and also makes a good captain as he’s someone who brings calm and isn’t overly emotional.

It would be a blow to lose someone of his experience and consistency. Vitor Pereira said he does hope Semedo will stay.

Apparently there is actually an openness on the player’s side to stay at Wolves. But whether Wolves and Semedo can agree fresh terms remains to be seen.
