Exhaust duct collapses in MBS loading bay carpark; no one hurt

SINGAPORE - An exhaust duct in the loading bay carpark of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) will be removed, after a portion of the overhanging tube there collapsed in the afternoon of March 24.

Exhaust ducts generally remove harmful or undesirable air from the space being ventilated.

No one was injured in the incident, an MBS spokesperson said in a media reply, adding that it is investigating the cause of the collapse.

“While we have assessed that the structure is structurally safe, we will remove the entire duct as a precautionary measure,” the spokesperson added.

Footage of the accident posted on the Sgfollowsall Instagram page shows a man wearing a neon yellow vest walking into the loading bay via its vehicular entrance. A light-coloured structure near the side of the passage then gives way and crashes down, narrowly missing the man.

The Straits Times has contacted the Building and Construction Authority for more information.
