Rangers have been told they could not have a better investor than the 49ers.

American tycoon Andrew Cavenagh – who is the leading force behind the prospective Ibrox takeover – is working alongside San Francisco 49ers big hitter Paraag Marathe, who is also the Leeds United chairman.

The Elland Road club are fighting at the top of the English Championship in a bid to return to the riches of the English Premier League and it is the changes at his old club that Paul Robinson - who also played at the top level on the international stage with England - has flagged up as what could change at Ibrox.

He believes investment would bring 'very steady and sensible investment' as well as 'nous' in the boardroom. Cavenagh was recently snapped at Rangers' win over Celtic at Parkhead before the international break while Paraag Marathe was pictured at Old Trafford when Manchester United and the Light Blues went head to head in the Europa League.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “It’s a rebuild from the ground up at Rangers. Look at what the 49ers have done at Leeds.

“It’s been a very steady, sensible investment but there’s been more financial investment from Red Bull. They can bring in their business expertise, not just in football but in all sports, and the nous that brings to the boardroom.

“I don’t think Rangers could have had a better investor in all honestly. There’s somebody coming in with 49ers who will rebuild the club from the bottom up, and it will be structurally sound with the correct investment in the right places.”
