Ryan Giggs’ eye-opening assessment of Ruben Amorim revealed three all-important traits that iconic former manager Sir Alex Ferguson displayed during his legendary Manchester United reign.
Ruben Amorim became the sixth permanent Manchester United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era after his arrival at Old Trafford from Sporting CP in 2024.
The 40-year-old United manager left his native homeland after a successful run with Sporting CP and replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout last November.
Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October and Ruud van Nistelrooy took over for a four-match run as Red Devils interim manager at Old Trafford.
The Premier League club have struggled to climb back to the top of English football since legendary former Red Devils manager Ferguson bowed out of United in 2013.
Ryan Giggs spent the majority of his Red Devils career under Ferguson and he was part of the last United squad to lift the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season.

But the 51-year-old ex-Wales manager welcomed “some harsh words and maybe some truthful words” from both Ruben Amorim and Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
“Recruitment-wise, bad decisions, both on and off the pitch, there’s a lot of work to be done,” Giggs said, as per The Daily Mirror.
“It’s not great to see, as someone who was there for so long and also as a fan.
“There’s been some harsh words and maybe some truthful words been spoken over the last couple of months by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and by Ruben, with some of the statements he’s come out with. He’s called a few people out when it’s needed.
“Maybe it was needed, we’ll have to wait and see. I don’t think anyone’s got a crystal ball to see what’s going to happen in the future and it’s going to be really interesting to see how it goes in the next five, 10, 15 years.
“I don’t think Ruben has shirked away and I don’t think anyone knew how difficult his job would be until he’s actually gone into it. But he’s remained positive.”

Ryan Giggs’ observation of Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim shows shades of Sir Alex Ferguson
Giggs spoke highly of Amorim’s ability as a coach and pointed to the United manager’s success in Sporting CP with winning league titles.
The former Wales and United star also added that the ex-Sporting boss has shown that he has charisma, personality and a “bit of steel” in him so far.
All three of the aforementioned traits that Giggs spotted in Amorim were evident in Sir Alex Ferguson during his legendary 26-year reign at Old Trafford.
“He’s [Amorim] had success, he knows what it takes to win leagues,” Giggs continued.
“He’s got that charisma, he’s got that personality, but he’s also got that bit of steel as well and needs to be backed.”
United’s first match after the March international break will be against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at City Ground on 1st April.
