Arsenal: Pursuit of a World-Class Striker: Why It’s Necessary

Arsenal are on a mission. No, not to come up with yet another dodgy Tottenham chant—but to sign a world-class striker to finish their near misses with silverware. Truly, this is not something anybody can blame them for. The Gunners have even been one of the most consistent sides in English football in recent years but have failed to win the big trophies. Like trying to win a marathon in flip-flops, it is painful and frustrating.

The solution? A lethal striker. Gabriel Jesus is a solid worker, but as good as you like, he does not instill fear in defenders at 3 a.m., one man. Arsenal needs a player who will guarantee goals; by the way, Bukayo Saka guarantees nutmegs.

The kicker, however, is that fixing the striker issue alone does not make Arsenal invincible. The midfield also needs some TLC.

Why Arsenal’s Midfield Needs a Makeover

There has been no secret about who is about to be a ghost town other than Arsenal’s midfield. Thomas Partey and Jorginho are both susceptible to departing at the end of their contracts next summer, and that leaves the Gunners short of at least a few quality players in the middle of the park. The fact that we couldn’t replace them (and further replacements, below, from the discount aisle) won’t fly.

What Arsenal do need is a proper ball-winning defensive midfielder. A player like Bruno Guimarães, not the kind of player who breaks up opposition attacks, lets possession be a golden ticket; that’s what you want. As well as an attacking midfielder who can score and assist on a regular basis.

Martin Odegaard may be doing the stuff of Nordic sorcery out there, but as a whole, Arsenal’s midfield isn’t delivering the goods when it comes to finding the net. Well, if the Gunners are or wish to stay at the head of the Premier League, they will have to find the right balance in their midfield.
