Ricardo, Daka, Alves – Leicester City injury latest ahead of Man City clash

Leicester City will hope Ricardo Pereira’s injury absence lasts just one game with the right-back possibly returning against Manchester City.

Ricardo made his comeback from a four-month absence during City’s defeat to Chelsea earlier this month, but was then missing for the loss to Manchester United.

Ruud van Nistelrooy said he had a “minor muscle injury” and that he could “maybe” return for the trip to Man City next Wednesday.

City could be 12 points from safety before kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, with Wolves in action at home to West Ham the night before.

Ricardo has only played three Premier League matches this season, having been an unused substitute for most of Steve Cooper’s reign, only to then suffer a serious hamstring injury after just his second league outing under the Welshman.

Against Chelsea, Ricardo played as an inverted full-back, as he did under Enzo Maresca last term, but van Nistelrooy has also suggested he could play as a wing-back in his new system, putting pressure on current starters James Justin and Victor Kristiansen.

If Ricardo is passed fit and if City avoid picking up fresh problems between now and the visit to the Etihad Stadium, they will have just one player out.

Abdul Fatawu is sidelined for the campaign following his ACL tear, but has said this month that he hopes to be ready for the start of pre-season.

If every player but Fatawu is fit, van Nistelrooy will have to leave out three senior outfield players. Against Chelsea, Jannik Vestergaard, Kasey McAteer, and Odsonne Edouard were the omitted trio.

Patson Daka, who has started the past two games, was surprisingly absent from the Zambia squad for their friendly with Russia.

However, there is no suggestion of an injury for the striker, with the Zambian FA saying he needed to sort a work permit issue in England to ensure he’s available for the remainder of the season.

Elsewhere, Will Alves, currently on loan at Cardiff, dropped out of the England Under-20s squad for their games against Portugal and Switzerland.

There was no confirmation that the attacking midfielder had suffered an injury, and it may just be a precaution, given he had not long returned from a knee knock.

Cardiff are back in action this Saturday, at home to Sheffield Wednesday, and currently sit one point and one place outside of the Championship relegation zone.
