That became undeniable on March 16th, as he helped Newcastle United win the Carabao Cup.
The Magpies’ trophy drought is over, with Bruno Guimaraes lifting the Carabao Cup at Wembley alongside Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles.

How Bruno Guimaraes has changed at Newcastle United
Since becoming Newcastle United captain, it has not been easy for Bruno. There were moments at the start of the campaign that the decision to give him so much responsibility was questioned.
However, new details from the Athletic explain how the 27-year-old has grown into the role as captain at St James’ Park.
They have spoken about Bruno’s captaincy to a dressing room source, who said: “Bruno has grown into the captaincy role, especially in and around the final. He has become more vocal in the group setting and I sense the players now look at him as the leader, which is really the acid test.”
Why Eddie Howe made Bruno Guimaraes captain
Giving Bruno the captain’s armband was a risk.
Eddie Howe already had Jamaal Lascelles as his captain, as well as understudies in Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn.
But the Brazilian leapfrogged them all, with Bruno telling Howe he wanted more responsibility.

Interestingly, Howe thought being captain would improve Bruno. The hope was that the added responsibility and importance would take his game to a greater level, but it initially proved to be a hinderance.
However, that is certainly not the case now. Bruno is every bit a leader at Newcastle United, and he will always be remembered as the Toon captain who helped end the club’s incredible trophy drought.
He wanted to write his name in the Newcastle United history books, and he has done exactly that as captain.
