Insider: Man United plan to accept '£50m' offer for 22-yr-old

Mick Brown

Man United are planning to cut their losses and sell Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that they will consider offers of around £50million for his services.

However, interested clubs are believed to have been put off by the 22-year-old’s lofty asking price and will move on to other targets as a result.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Hojlund has no future at Man United and possible replacements are already being lined up.

The striker’s lack of improvement under Ruben Amorim has been described as “alarming”.

On top of that, United will struggle to move Hojlund on given the £72million fee paid to sign him from Atalanta just two years ago, as they aim to recoup a large portion of that money.

Man United open to Rasmus Hojlund exit as replacement eyed

Brown told Football Insider in January that Man United want to sign a new striker due to concerns about Hojlund’s performances under Amorim.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and was instrumental in the signing of Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2001, has insisted United will sign a replacement for Hojlund in the summer.

“*Man United will see if they can move Hojlund on this summer,*” he told Football Insider.

“The problem is, clubs aren’t exactly queuing up to sign him.

“I’m sure they will be interest from somewhere, but then it’s about what they’d be willing to pay.

“United want to sell Hojlund if they can, but they’ve got to find somebody willing to meet his asking price.

“From what I’ve heard, they’ve set this £50million price tag because they want to make back as much as what they spent on him as they can.

“But I can’t think of a single club who would be willing to meet that price tag.

“For that to happen, he would need a really good spell between now and the end of the season, and then you’d ask why United would let him go anyway.

“If United have decided enough is enough with Hojlund and it’s time to bring somebody else in, there is always talk about Harry Kane.

“They’re going to look for a new striker, especially if they can shift him, and they’ll be weighing up their options.”

Ruben Amorim provides edge in Viktor Gyokeres race

As Amorim eyes the signing of a new striker this summer, his side have been linked with a number of potential options to fill the position.

Brown told Football Insider on 15 March that Man United remain keen on signing Viktor Gyokeres and Amorim is the driving force behind the deal.

Now, Brown has told Football Insider that Man United are leading the race for Gyokeres despite rival interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Gyokeres, 26, has a close relationship with the manager after their time together at Sporting CP which is currently swinging the deal in their favour.
