Dallas Goedert Trade Rumors Swirl As Eagles New TEs Wait Their Turn

In a tight end room with a Pro Bowl-caliber player in Dallas Goedert, and a quality pass-catching backup in Grant Calcaterra, snaps are limited for any one project on the Philadelphia Eagles.

That doesn't mean that reality won't change this offseason.

With Goedert entering the final year of his deal with Philly, there has been rampant speculation that the team could either cut or trade the former second-round pick. Goedert is expected to make over $10 million against the cap this year, and the Eagles need that space for next season.

So the rumors swirl.

Perhaps that is why the team did what they could to address the depth of the group with the signing of Harrison Bryant.

The former Las Vegas Raider has been known for his blocking at the NFL level, but was a strong pass catcher in college.

"I think I've always been a decent blocker but in college, I just wasn't asked to do it as much," Bryant said. "So in the NFL not everyone's going to get 50 or 60 targets a year, so you got to find a way to be on the field and that way for me was to improve my blocking."

Bryant won't be expected to start right away for the Birds, and he's clearly going to be used more as a blocker than anything else.

But that doesn't mean he can't make an impact.

"I just think it's a great opportunity with a great tight end room," Bryant said of signing with the Eagles. "And obviously, what's better than signing with the defending Super Bowl champs? That was why I ultimately made a decision to come here was to just play on a winning team.

"... At the end of the day, I just wanted to come to a place where I was wanted with a winning organization."

Bryant, along with Calcaterra and newly signed Kyle Granson could all be competing for time if Goedert is eventually moved this offseason. The only thing to do at this point, though, is wait.
