Report: Why Chelsea are so desperate to sign a right-footed winger this summer - it's not because of Jadon Sancho's…

It is becoming increasingly likely that Chelsea will sign a new winger when the transfer window opens in the summer.

Despite having an obligation to buy Jadon Sancho, the Blues could watch the 24-year-old return to Manchester United at the end of the season.

Chelsea can terminate their agreement to sign Sancho permanently by paying a penalty fee, a scenario that does not look impossible after his recent form.

However, the England international is reportedly not the reason why the club want to bring in a new wide man.

Chelsea preparing for the worst with Mykhailo Mudryk

There is even more uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk‘s future, with the 24-year-old still suspended.

According to GiveMeSport, that uncertainty is the real reason why Chelsea are keen to recruit a right-footed winger this summer.

If Mudryk remains suspended, then that would leave just Sancho and 19-year-old Tyrique George as natural options for the left flank.

It is no surprise, then, that the Blues are seriously thinking about signing a new winger for the 2025/26 season.

It has been claimed that Chelsea could look to buy a wide man and striker before July begins, meaning that Enzo Maresca could have a couple of fresh faces for the Club World Cup.

In terms of recruiting a new centre-forward, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap continues to be linked to Chelsea.

One right-footed attacker Chelsea are keen on is Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Semenyo is a key target for Chelsea.

Chelsea also have Rafael Leao on their radar, so the AC Milan star is another option for the club.

At this stage, Blues fans would probably take either at the expense of Mudryk or Sancho — it does not matter who.

Neither the former nor the latter has shown any real consistency at Stamford Bridge, though Mudryk has had much longer to prove himself.
