The Carolina Panthers entered the week desperately needing help at safety following the loss of their top two players. Xavier Woods signed with the Tennesee Titans, and Jordan Fuller signed with the Atlanta Falcons, while Sam Franklin remains unsigned. With the loss of Woods and Fuller, the Panthers currently have three safeties under contract, including Tre’von Moehrig, Demani Richardson, and Nick Scott.

Blackmon, who turns 27 in August, spent the last five years with the Indianapolis Colts. He has plenty of starting experience with the Colts, getting the nod in 62 out of 66 regular season games. Since the safety market is picked over, he is considered one of the top remaining players.
He had a solid 2024 campaign

After a weak free agent market last offseason, the Indianapolis Colts re-signed Julian Blackmon to a team-friendly 1-year, $3.7 million contract. Blackmon had a solid 2024 campaign, playing the most games in his career with 16. He recorded 86 tackles, one TFL, 0.5 sacks, three interceptions, and four pass deflections in 16 starts.

According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, the Panthers also hosted former New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens safety Marcus Williams for a free-agent visit. He spent the last three seasons with Baltimore.

Williams had a disappointing tenure with the Ravens, missing 13 games with injuries in his first two seasons and eventually losing the starting safety job in his third season. After struggling earlier in the year, the team benched him in favor of Ar’Darius Washington, and he was a healthy scratch in six regular season games and the entire postseason.

As a result, the Ravens designated Williams as a post-June 1st cut.
