Lewis Miley of England arrives at the stadium prior to the UEFA U19 EURO Elite Round match between England and Turkyie
His minutes at Newcastle United may be limited at present but Lewis Miley is continuing to go from strength to strength on the international stage. This current break in domestic action has proved especially fruitful for the Magpies midfielder, who is impressing within the England youth setup.
Miley has played 180 minutes of football for the Three Lions' under-19 sides in recent days, helping England to a 2-0 win over Wales and a draw with Turkey. The central midfielder captained his side in Saturday's 0-0 draw with the latter.
Miley's physical advantages have been on show, with the 18-year-old proving to be a duel-winning machine in the centre of the park, venturing forward whenever possible. In the win over Wales' under-19 side, Miley found himself in good positions in the final third when attempting to find the net.
Being given the armband over the weekend is a clear sign of how highly-rated the Newcastle academy graduate really is. Miley is currently sharing a dressing room with the likes of Manchester United youngster Ethan Wheatley, Southampton's exciting attacker Tyler Dibling and Tottenham ace Mikey Moore.
Back on Tyneside it has been a stop-start season after the breakthrough nature of last term. Miley has been used sparingly by Eddie Howe after injury struggles in 2024, likely linked to a sharp rise in first-team football at such a young age.
This time around Newcastle's staff have ensured Miley's progress is being managed in a sustainable way. The prospect has been handed cup starts and has moved up the midfield pecking order, despite failing to permanently dislodge Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.
Miley is still seen as a future superstar. Any interest in his services will be swatted away without hesitation, with Newcastle keen to ensure the teenager continues his upward trajectory on Tyneside as opposed to at any other Premier League rival.
England under-19s have one more fixture pencilled in for the current international break, taking on Portugal's young guns on Tuesday. Miley will be back on Tyneside to celebrate Newcastle's Carabao Cup win with team-mates this weekend.
