Maresca has already hinted at Chelsea summer transfer plans amid Osimhen rumours

As we head towards the season's conclusion, it is quite clear for everybody to see exactly what Chelsea's priority will be in the summer transfer window.

It will be - in football's worst kept secret - a new central striker. That was always the plan after missing out on signing Victor Osimhen last summer, but the double injury to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu at the beginning of February has only reassured the Blues of how integral it is that they land a new No.9.

"From now to the summer, we have still four, five months," Enzo Maresca said last month. "For sure, in the summer, we will see if we need something different, not only in terms of striker but in general. From there, we decide."

Osimhen came close to joining Chelsea on loan from Napoli last summer but a move collapsed with differences over salary demands. However, the Nigeria international, who has shone on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray this season, remains on the Blues' radar ahead of the summer. There are a number of other names, too, including Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea want to add a top-class No.9 to their squad in order to help Jackson, who the Blues have been over reliant on this season to produce the goods up front. Jackson has been missing since the start of last month because of a hamstring injury he suffered in the home win against West Ham United, but the Senegal international is due to return to the fold after the international break.

The Blues will be hopeful of keeping the 23-year-old fit and available between now and the end of the season before they address the striker situation in the summer. Elsewhere, the club are also interested in signing a left-sided winger after considering doing so over the mid-season transfer window.

The likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Mathys Tel and Jamie Gittens were all considered by Chelsea but nothing came to fruition in the end. Tel ended up moving to Tottenham, who have an option in his loan contract to make any deal permanent, while nothing ever came over interest in Garnacho and Gittens.

However, the two will likely be on the club's radar in the summer transfer window. The future of Jadon Sancho remains uncertain, with Chelsea having an option to cancel the obligation to buy in his contract. The Blues agreed a loan deal with Manchester United last summer with an obligation understood to be £25million, but that can be cancelled if Chelsea pay a small fee.

The form of Sancho in recent months has been really disappointing and it has led to several questions over his future at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, the Mykhailo Mudryk situation has gone quiet in recent months and his future in west London remains uncertain.

A centre-back has also been mentioned for the summer transfer window. Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth has been mightily impressive in his debut season in the Premier League and such form has attracted interest from the very top clubs in European football. The 19-year-old central defender is a target for Liverpool, but Chelsea are also firm admirers of the Spain international's talents and potential.
