Joe Gelhardt is currently out on loan at Hull City from Leeds United, with a permanent exit now on the cards.

Leeds United appear on course to secure promotion back to the Premier League ahead of the final eight games of the season, though Gelhardt has had little to no influence on it.

The Leeds forward joined Hull City on loan in the winter, having been limited to just three appearances at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke’s outlook on the situation evident from the start of the campaign.

However, Hull do not hold any buy option in his loan, meaning that Gelhardt will return to the Whites this summer, albeit for what could be a short period of time.

Daniel Farke accused of underusing Gelhardt

Gelhardt was once tipped to have a huge future at Leeds, though their own success has prevented the 22-year-old from getting a look-in this season.

The versatile forward has thrived out on loan at Hull, and Paul Robinson – when speaking to MOT Leeds News – thinks a permanent exit could be the only option under one condition.

*“If Leeds go up, I think a permanent exit will be the case, especially if Daniel Farke’s still there,*” said Robinson.

“If Leeds go up, the manager’s still going to be there. Gelhardt’s been a very small part player under Daniel Farke. At times, even when there’s been an injury-hit squad, he’s not had his game. He’s not come off the bench that often.

Gelhardt’s stats this season

“I think he’s a quality player. I think to his detriment at times of Leeds, he’s been an impact player off the bench. He’s a player that comes off the bench. He works his socks off. He’s a pest. He causes defenders a problem. He’ll sniff out a goal late in the game. To have a player like that who comes off the bench in that way is almost invaluable for a manager.

“For Daniel Farke, he’s underused him. And I think if Leeds do go up, and the manager’s still there, a permanent exit would seem only normal.”

Leeds have no excuses this season

Not only did Leeds fail to take the chance to sign additional quality in the winter, but they also sanctioned exits for the likes of Gelhardt who could have played a part.

With eight games to go, promotion simply has to be achieved, and if not, Farke will be under a lot of scrutiny for some of the decisions he has made.

As things stand, Leeds are level on points with Sheffield United and two above Burnley.
