Report: Newcastle United bus parade hopes reignited as club chiefs hold talks to celebrate…

Newcastle United fans will have a chance to celebrate the Carabao Cup with the squad on Saturday.

Eddie Howe and his players made history last weekend when they ended Newcastle United’s 70-year wait for a major trophy.

Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final but the celebrations at Wembley had to be cut short for several players who had to jet out on international duty.

There are currently 14 Newcastle stars on international duty, but the celebrations will continue when they return.

That is because Newcastle have planned Carabao Cup celebrations for Saturday, March 29th, including a ticketed event on the Town Moor.

Newcastle United in talks for Carabao Cup bus parade

Despite making club history by winning the Carabao Cup, there have been logistical difficulties with Newcastle planning a bus parade.

Newcastle’s previous bus parades have seen hundreds of thousands of fans line the streets of the city, and that was to welcome back a team that finished as runners-up, never mind as cup winners.

Alongside the celebrations on the Town Moor, The Chronicle have reignited hope that there will be a bus parade too.

They claim that club chiefs have continued to hold talks over a potential bus parade and there is still hope that it can be arranged for the weekend.

Newcastle always wanted to organise a bus parade after the cup final victory, but ultimately the decision also relies on a green light from the Northumbria Police and Newcastle City Council.

The two concerns about a Newcastle United trophy parade

Given that the Town Moor event is ticketed, Newcastle fans will want a public parade for the trophy and that is what the club is working towards.

However, there are two issues that are delaying the announcement.

Concerns have been raised about the parade clashing with a busy shopping afternoon on Saturday.

Additionally, The Chronicle report that a large police presence is required with Millwall fans travelling up to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

With resources stretched, the police are concerned about staffing numbers for a potential bus parade through Newcastle.

Road closures are set to be announced in due course and Newcastle chiefs remain in talks over possible plans for a trophy parade.
