Chelsea join race to sign La Liga star

Chelsea welcome rivals Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge when the Premier League resumes at the start of April.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in their final outing before the international break, having beaten Southampton and Leicester City in their previous two league games.

Having sat second in the top flight table at Christmas, Enzo Maresca’s side have won just four of 14 Premier League games and have slipped to fourth spot in the process.

Despite this, the West London side do remain on course to qualify for the Champions League next term, with England set to benefit from a fifth qualification spot.

Regardless, it appears that those in charge of the Blues are eyeing an audacious move for one of Europe’s most coveted attackers.

According to TBR Football, Chelsea have joined the race to land Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, 22.

The attacker is a product of Athletic’s fruitful youth academy and has now played more than more than 150 times for the Basque club at senior level, scoring 29 goals and registering 28 assists.

Williams has attracted interest from several clubs including Chelsea

He also impressed for Spain at the European Championships in Germany last year, scoring twice as Luis de la Fuente’s side lifted the trophy.

The report claims that the Blues are considering their options when it comes to bolster Maresca’s squad in attack, with the club considering not signing on-loan winger permanently from rivals Manchester United.

It is also claimed that the player himself would prefer a move to fellow Spanish side Barcelona, however he would consider the prospect of joining the Premier League this summer.

That has alerted the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as Chelsea, with all three Premier League sides showing interest in the winger.

Williams’ current contract with Athletic is set to run until the end of the 202627 campaign.
