Journalist delivers fresh update on Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood, fans will be anxious

Nottingham Forest have everything crossed on the fitness of talismanic centre-forward Chris Wood.

Bad news struck on Monday morning for the Reds.

As Forest fans tucked into their morning breakfast and hot coffee, they witnessed Wood hobble out of the action as New Zealand qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

Wood landed awkwardly after taking a shot at goal against New Caledonia and worry has set in among the fan base.

The striker has bagged 18 goals in the Premier League this season and losing him for any period of time could prove seriously detrimental.

Update on Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood emerges

It’s been a case of refreshing social media all day when it comes to receiving updates on Wood.

He did post on Instagram after the game and didn’t seem too disgruntled when celebrating reaching the World Cup with the All Whites.

Now, the Daily Mail’s football correspondent Tom Collomosse has shared an update which should help ease any genuine fears among the fan base.

He posted on X: “Chris Wood: at this stage, not thought to be a major issue. Will be assessed further when he’s back in Nottingham.”

Wood is being backed up in the Forest team by Taiwo Awoniyi and with just one Premier League goal this season, Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping his main man is fit.

The striker has aged like a fine wine since signing for Forest for £15 million from Newcastle.

He scored 14 times in the Premier League during 2023/24 and has then followed that up by scoring 18 times with nine games remaining of the current campaign.

Wood is integral to the way in which Forest play under Espirito Santo and he will now eagerly anticipate the striker’s return so he can be assessed.

The player would dearly love to smash through that 20-goal mark this season and the hope will now be that the injury is nothing too serious.
