Roy Keane's daughter has incurable illness as sister set to wed England footballer

Roy Keane is set to grace our TV screens tonight, offering his expert analysis for ITV during England's World Cup qualifying match against Latvia at Wembley Stadium.

The Manchester United icon will join host Mark Pougatch and fellow pundit Ian Wright as the Three Lions aim to build on their victorious start to the campaign, having secured a 2-0 win over Albania on Friday which has put them at the top of their group.

A fiercely competitive midfielder during his playing days for Nottingham Forest and Manchester United, since his retirement Keane has built a reputation as one of the most outspoken pundits in football. His views carry weight, with his illustrious career yielding seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League during his 12 years at Old Trafford.

He has also spent time in management, leading Sunderland to the Premier League in 2006/07, and was briefly assistant to Paul Lambert at Aston Villa in 2014. He reprised this role alongside Forest legend Martin O'Neil at the City Ground in 2019.

However, away from the football pitch, the 53 year old Irishman has revealed a softer side in retirement, occasionally offering glimpses into his family life on social media, reports Wales Online.

Keane has been married to his wife Theresa Doyle for 28 years, after the couple met in 1992 during his time with Nottingham Forest. Although Theresa rarely appears in public alongside her husband, he has described her as "beautiful, brilliant [and] a rock in my life", and together they have five children - Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah, and Alanna - as well as two grandchildren.

Their second eldest daughter, Caragh, has recently been in the limelight due to her ongoing health battles. Diagnosed with lupus in 2021, an incurable condition that led her to fear her "life was over", she has been dealing with severe joint pain, hair loss and painful blisters.

The autoimmune disease caused extreme fatigue, forcing Caragh to pause her teaching career as she faced the prospect of lifelong chemotherapy or immunosuppressant treatment. However, at just 29, Caragh has managed to significantly reduce her symptoms through dietary changes, leading her to found the award-winning company Superkeen Foods, which aims to help others living with the same condition.

Reflecting on her "darkest times" when she felt there was "no way out of this", Caragh expressed her deep gratitude towards her parents for their unwavering support. She particularly praised her "incredible" father for his invaluable guidance, saying he "helped [her] so much".

Caragh shared with PA Real Life her appreciation for her parents' support, saying: "My mum firmly believes in the body's ability to heal itself... and even during my health flare-ups, she helps me regain perspective."

She also expressed gratitude towards her father, adding: "My dad is incredible as well. He's the best person for advice and I think he's helped me so much. I feel really lucky to have them."

Leah Keane, another of Keane's daughters, has caught the media's attention after her engagement to Southampton and England defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The couple, who have been together for around five years, have maintained a low profile but revealed at the end of last year that Harwood-Bellis, who came through the Manchester City academy, proposed over the summer.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis, amid transfer rumours linking him with West Ham and Crystal Palace, had an impressive 2024. Not only did he get engaged and play a key role in Southampton's promotion to the Premier League, but he also scored on his England debut in November – all while his future father-in-law provided commentary from the ITV punditry box.

Despite the goal being against the Republic of Ireland, Keane humorously acknowledged his mixed feelings but gave a tongue-in-cheek approval of his daughter's relationship. He joked that the goal was "bittersweet" for him, and regarding the engagement "not done and dusted yet" he commented: "Over the last few months he's definitely been a goal threat playing for Southampton, it's nice for him.

"It's great for him to make his debut, as I said he's a bit of a goal threat. He's a nice kid, his family has done a great job."
