Everton have been transformed since the return of David Moyes to Goodison Park.

When Sean Dyche was let go in Merseyside, Everton sat just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, which now, incredibly, stands at 17 points.

Moyes is unbeaten in nine of his 10 Premier League games as boss so far, and the Toffees are now looking ahead to better times.

Keown makes Nottingham Forest comparison

At the start of the season, Everton were still under the ownership of Farhad Moshiri, who had brought financial worry and points deductions to Merseyside.

However, throughout the campaign, the arrivals of the Friedkin Group and Moyes have certainly lifted the morale on Merseyside.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Toffees now sit 15th in the Premier League table, but with such a big gap separating them from the drop zone, the Blues will now be desperate for the season to end so they can start to plan for more exciting times.

In Martin Keown’s view, though, not many new players are needed as he argued that Everton’s current squad is better than Nottingham Forest’s.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (24 March, 12:27pm), Keown argued: “If we look at the end of last season, Forest finished actually below Everton. Both teams were deducted points, and we look at the squads, the squads have been pretty much the same that finished last season, that started this season.

“Change of manager for Forest, and look what’s happened, they’re third in the table. Now, Everton, you could argue, could’ve achieved better. They have done under Moyes. Been quite respectable, even though they’ve lost two or three key players.

“At the start of the season, Everton proved they were better than Forest because they finished above Forest with pretty much the same squad.”

Everton looking up the table next season

It’s quite a bold claim from Keown, although it takes nothing away from what Nottingham Forest have achieved this season to get themselves sitting third in the table.

You can understand what he’s trying to get at, and the implication that having a good manager can be as important as having good players in the squad.

Whether they will reach third in the table next season is yet to be seen, but you would certainly expect Everton to push much further, rather than battle at the bottom against relegation.

With a move to Bramley-Moore Dock coming at the end of the current campaign, the appointment of Angus Kinnear and a first proper transfer window for TFG, Everton supporters can certainly look to the future with more optimism.

If this Premier League season has shown anything, it’s that any team can push at the top end of the table if they are well organised and prepared.
