Ruben Amorim is expected to be in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer
Manchester United have emerged as possible contenders to sign Greek wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas in the summer transfer window as Ruben Amorim and his recruitment team continue to scour the European market for the best young talents.
Graeme Bailey – chief correspondent for TBR Football- has reported that United scouts were in attendance to watch Karetsas make just his second international appearance for Greece during a 3-0 UEFA Nations League play-off triumph against Scotland at Hampden. They were not the only club said to be present, however, with Liverpool and Newcastle United also in attendance.
Karetsas had only made his debut just days earlier as a substitute during a 1-0 defeat in Athens against the Tartan Army, but was introduced into the starting line-up for the reverse fixture in Glasgow as Greece ran riot against Steve Clarke’s side in a sensational victory.
The 17-year-old notably scored his side’s second goal of the game with a brilliant strike and was lauded for his ability to cause one of the Premier League’s most established left-backs Andrew Robertson all kinds of problems throughout the contest.
Man Utd monitor Konstantinos Karetsas
TBR Football reports that United were scouting Konstantinos Karetsas at Hampden as they scour the market for midfield targets.
United are expected to lose Christian Eriksen on a free in the summer and face a challenge tying Kobbie Mainoo down to a new contract amid reports of £180,000 per week wage demands and interest from Chelsea.
Karetsas became Greece’s youngest ever goalscorer with his strike against Scotland and is already building a huge reputation for his performances in Belgium’s top-flight with Genk where he has already made 34 first team appearances, scoring twice and providing five assists while primarily playing in the number 10 role.
Man Utd plot move for Champions League finalist
Meanwhile, United are also said to closely monitoring Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha in yet another exciting transfer rumour for the Red Devils. Nmecha is a product of the Manchester City academy, who also spent time at VFL Wolfsburg before making the move to Dortmund in 2023.
The former England Under-19 international, who eventually decided to represent Germany, formed part of the Dortmund team which reached the Champions League final last season while beating the likes of Newcastle United, Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven and Atletico Madrid en route to the final.
Nmecha is a tough tackling central midfielder with great energy, stamina and the ability to create chances for his team-mates. The 24-year-old is believed to be valued at around £40m and is strongly considered as an option for the Red Devils moving forward, according to Sky German reporter Florian Plettenberg, who posted on X: “Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Felix #Nmecha, as per BILD. However, there are currently no concrete talks or negotiations with either the player or Borussia Dortmund.
“One reason is that #MUFC [sic] still have an excess of players in his position. Dortmund are demanding at least €50 million (£41.7m) in the summer. His contract runs until 2028.”
