NFL Star Reveals Plan to Retire Sooner Than Expected

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has quickly become one of the most electric young stars in the NFL. Drafted in the fifth round in 2023, the BYU product stunned the league with a breakout rookie season-catching 105 passes for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns.

His 2024 campaign, though shortened to 11 games, remained just as impressive, as he hauled in 79 receptions for 990 yards and four total touchdowns.

Still just 23 years old, Nacua has already cemented himself as a cornerstone of the Rams' offense. That's why his recent comments have left fans stunned.

During a recent appearance on the "Join The Lobby" podcast, Nacua admitted that his NFL career may not last as long as most would expect.

"I know I want to retire at the age of 30," Nacua said.

While early retirement in the NFL is rare, Nacua wouldn't be the first star to step away before his prime years faded.

Andrew Luck shocked the league when he retired at 29 due to injuries and the mental toll of rehab. Calvin Johnson and Patrick Willis also left the game at 30, while Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders walked away at 31 while still dominating.

For Nacua, his reasoning goes beyond football.

"I think of Aaron Donald; to go out at the top, I think it would be super cool," he explained. "But also, I want to have a big family."

His family clearly drives Nacua's long-term plans.

"I came from a big family so I need five boys, for sure," he added. "I want to be able to be a part of their lives and be as active as I can with them."

If Nacua continues producing at this level, he'll likely have the opportunity to walk away on his terms-just the way he envisions it.
