Evan Ferguson has struggled since joining West Ham on loan in the winter transfer window.

The Brighton loanee has featured for a total of 92 minutes in the Premier League across five substitute appearances and is yet to open his account for the Hammers.

However, his form on the international stage will provide Graham Potter with encouragement as he enters the latter stages of the season although it will not do much for the Irons’ league position.

Ferguson stars for Ireland away from West Ham

While Ferguson has not scored for Potter’s side, he was in fine form as he opened the scoring for the Republic of Ireland in the 2-1 win over Bulgaria.

The Hammers ace smashed the ball into the roof of the net after a clever one-two with his teammate to strike for the first time since November.

The 20-year-old took to Instagram after the contest, saying: “Always good to be in green.”

Oliver Scarles commented on the post with two flame emojis.

Potter can get the best out of Ferguson but it may too late

Potter is yet to trust his former Brighton forward with a start despite rating him very highly and it looks unlikely that the Irons will sign him permanently in the summer.

That is a result of the Irishman’s injury issues that has plagued him in recent years, with his manager keen to ease him back to fitness before trusting him from the start.

Ferguson’s stats for West Ham.

The Hammers have just nine league matches left to play so time is running out for Ferguson to make an impact at the London Stadium despite the high expectations that he arrived with any contributions that he does make are unlikely to affect their finish in the league.

The youngster may finish the season confidently after breaking his drought for his nation but it may come too late for the East London outfit to change their minds on his future.

If he returns to Sussex and starts banging in goals, the Hammers will be furious that they did not take advantage and secure a permanent option in his loan deal but right now that looks like the right move given that he has just three goals for club and country all season.
