Tottenham make offer for Championship teenager

Tottenham Hotspur travel to face fierce London rivals Chelsea when the Premier League returns at the start of April.

The Lilywhites have endured a difficult season so far and currently sit 14th in the top flight table, having won just ten of their 29 games in the competition so far.

Manager Ange Postecoglou will hope to see his side improve in the final months of the season, however their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League next term may now be by winning the Europa League this season.

Off the pitch, it appears that Spurs have made an early attempt to sign one of England’s most talented young prospects.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via GiveMeSport, Tottenham have made an early move to sign 17-year-old Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.

The teenager made his debut for the Black Cats at the age of 15 and has now played more than 60 times for his boyhood club at senior level.

Rigg has reportedly been the subject of an offer from Tottenham Hotspur

Rigg has been hugely impressive for Sunderland, particularly this season during which he has already played 36 times across all competitions.

It is claimed that the Lilywhites have tabled an offer of around £37 million for the youngster, who is under contract at the Stadium of Light until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

The report suggests that Spurs are hoping to agree a deal for the midfielder as soon as possible, with Rigg’s impressive form having attracted interest from a number of clubs.

Spurs are said to have been impressed by the player’s maturity and ability to influence games, whilst his versatility – being able to play as a central or attacking midfielder – will also appeal to the Lilywhites.

Rigg has attracted interest from several clubs in the Premier League, with scours from top flight clubs having watched him in action this season.
