The Financials On A Wyatt Teller For Brandon Aiyuk Cleveland Browns Trade

With rumors of a Wyatt Teller for Brandon Aiyuk trade in the works, Jack Duffin looks at the financials from a Cleveland Browns perspective.

With a potential trade in the works between the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers, let us take a look at the financial impact for the Browns if they were to do this deal.

It is not a surprise that Wyatt Teller's name has been floated as a trade target since they signed Teven Jenkins in free agency. He was a player that was likely to earn around $14m a year on the open market, so while we don't know the financials yet there is a low chance he has signed to be a backup. I would expect to see him starting in one of the five offensive line spots come week one. With no official number out yet, it is likely he is earning less than the $14m that was first predicted.

In terms of predicted trade value I would not expect it to be much. Aiyuk was rumored to be worth around a third round pick and if we look at what Joe Thuney went for it was a fourth round pick. It could easily be a straight up swap between the two players, if any other value is needed then they can swap day three picks to balance out the deal.

In this article I will look at the Wyatt Teller contract, then the Brandon Aiyuk contract and then balancing out the number for the Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland Browns Film Room: Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is a Ball of Untapped Potential

The Cleveland Browns signed former first-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to bolster their defensive line depth. While his exact role may still be cloudy, what's clear is that the Browns are interested not in what he's been, but in what he could become.

The Cleveland Browns have a new rotational EDGE, bringing in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. He'll count less than $2 million against the cap this season, so Tryon-Shoyinka isn't costing the team much financially, but is he an upgrade over the presumably to-be-released Ogbo Okoronkwo and/or Alex Wright?

Tryon-Shoyinka was the 32nd overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft after playing only 25 collegiate games over two seasons for the Washington Huskies - he opted out of the 2020 campaign as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but put enough on tape during his 2019 performance when he generated a solid 13.8% pressure rate and logged nine sacks. He was still raw from a technical perspective, and missing a year of on-field development clearly hurt him in hindsight, but the potential was there.

One of the biggest draws for Tryon-Shoyinka as a prospect was his frame and athletic ability. He was tall and long, won in multiple ways, and looked like he could add 10-15 pounds of muscle while retaining his solid bend, which would make him an effective NFL starter.
