This is not the first time Aaron Rodgers has drawn out a process to find a new team. He did it the first time around when he was getting traded from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets. That took up until the week of the NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers seem content to wait. However, not everyone is happy with how Rodgers has handled his negotiations with the Steelers and New York Giants.
NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin loves the fit with the Steelers, but believes Rodgers is drawing this out so the attention is all on him.
"I wanted to see him in Pittsburgh. I thought he would be great in Pittsburgh, when he was in that mode of I’m ready to come in and do what I have to do,” Irvin said on Up & Adams with Kay Adams. “Now when this thing gets dragged out like this, now it’s all about you again. And I don’t know if that works in Pittsburgh. I heard Cam Heyward the other day said, ‘Come on, man. If you don’t wanna play for us, let me know.’ Aaron Rodgers has to make a decision for that reason right there. I would not have this happening because whatever team you go to now, it’s like is it about you or are you happy to be on the team? Pittsburgh I thought was a great place.”
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the Steelers have put out an offer to Rodgers and that has not changed in weeks. The parameters of a deal already seem to be in place, it is simply up to Rodgers to sign the deal or decide to head somewhere else, like the Giants, or retire from the NFL.
Rodgers met with head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. However, he left without a deal, but the team and Rodgers never talked about money on the visit. Now, it is up to him to decide where he wants to go.
