Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been a reliable performer for club and country over the years, but he earned the ire of Roy Keane on Monday.
Pickford has been England’s undisputed number-one goalkeeper since 2018, and has been ever-present for Everton in the Premier League this season.
The 31-year-old joined Everton in 2017 as a promising talent, and has since become one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the top flight, and one of England’s best in modern history.
However, Pickford was involved in one awkward situation in the first half of England’s clash with Latvia at Wembley Stadium, and has now been criticised by Keane as a result.

Jordan Pickford criticised for England mix-up with Marc Guehi
With the score at 0-0 early on in the 18th minute, England almost conceded in embarrassing fashion after a mistake from Pickford.

Latvian striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis raced through on goal after a fine run whilst duelling with Marc Guehi, and he had an open goal to aim at.

Pickford had raced out to intercept him, but instead put Guehi off after a miscommunication, but thankfully the striker could not convert after rounding the goalkeeper.
Speaking on ITV coverage at half time (March 24, 8.30pm), former Manchester United midfielder Keane claimed Pickford was to blame for the defensive mix-up.
“Poor from England. Goalkeepers get bored sometimes, but Pickford comes up, and you feel like saying to Pickford ‘mind your own business, let the defender deal with it,’ so I’d be looking at Pickford there,” he stated.
“He’s obviously had his hand up there at the end saying ‘it’s my fault’, but he doesn’t have to come up that far.”

Jordan Pickford has been reliable for England
All goalkeepers are capable of the occasional error, particularly in games in which they are hardly tested over the 90 minutes, and need to maintain their concentration.
Pickford rushed out too early in this case, but Latvia were unable to convert, and he was not called into action again in the first half.
The goalkeeper has been a reliable performer for England across several tournaments, and with 310 club appearances to his name, Pickford will go down as an Everton and England great.
Only Peter Shilton has more caps for England than Pickford, who has now drawn level with Joe Hart and David Seaman on 75, and with the Everton star appearing in two Euro finals, he came closer to an international trophy than any of them.
