Manchester United are set to have a lot of changes in their squad in the summer transfer window. They have endured a difficult season and will need to elevate their performances if they need to compete in the next season. The club have to go through some serious transformations if they need to get back on track.
Jadon Sancho was one such player for whom United spent a lot of transfer windows. When he arrived at the club after a hard toil, fans had a lot of expectations from the English international. However, Sancho failed to perform as per the expectations, had off-field issues with former manager Erik Ten Hag, was loaned to Borussia Dortmund and now to Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano provides update on Jadon Sancho to Manchester United
The English international has failed to perform for the Blues as well this season. Chelsea got him on loan with an obligation to buy, which, as per Fabrizio Romano, is £20-25 million. However, the Blues can even get out of the deal and send Sancho back to United for a penalty fee.
Fabrizio Romano provides update on Jadon Sancho to Manchester United
Romano, in his daily briefing, has talked about the situation concerning Sancho. He has revealed that United don’t consider him part of their plans and still expect Chelsea to buy him. The Blues have still not decided whether to buy him or pay that penalty fee to send him back to United. However, they do have that option in mind as Sancho has not performed in his stint at Stamford Bridge.
“There’s been a lot written in recent days about the situation of Jadon Sancho, so what’s the reality? It’s important to clarify that Chelsea signed Sancho from Manchester United in the summer, bringing him in on loan with an obligation to buy for around £20-25m, based on both the appearances of the player and the club’s position in the Premier League table.
But Chelsea also have an option in this agreement to pay a fee to Manchester United to send him back to Old Trafford at the end of the season. So, that’s a possibility Chelsea have in the contract. However, my understanding today (and it’s still very early), is that Chelsea have not made any sort of decision, and have not activated any kind of contact to send Sancho back to Manchester United.
So, for the moment Chelsea are not proceeding with this clause, but they have this possibility and it’s something they will assess at the end of the season. Of course, it’s not just Chelsea, and it’s also important to clarify that Manchester United’s plan remains to sell Sancho. They still hope to sell Sancho to Chelsea – they believe he will become a Chelsea player and they are not counting on him at United next season.”
Fabrizio Romano said in the The Daily Briefing,
Sancho has scored 2 goals in 23 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. He has amassed a G/A of 6 so far this season. When Jadon Sancho hits his peak, he’s a joy to watch. The winger glides past defenders with smooth dribbling, his quick feet and sharp turns leaving them grasping at air. He has got a knack for picking out killer passes, threading the needle with vision that sets up teammates perfectly.
On his best days, Sancho hugs the touchline, stretching the pitch, then cuts inside with purpose, unleashing fierce shots or clever flicks. His confidence radiates—cool under pressure, he dictates the tempo and sparks attacks. Add the winger’s relentless work rate, and Sancho becomes a game-changer, blending flair with grit effortlessly. However, it is quite clear that United don’t trust him anymore.

How will this impact Red Devils’ fans?
United supporters will be dreading the thought of Jadon Sancho boomeranging back to them. Chelsea’s loan deal flops again—£20-25 million to buy, yet they might just pay a penalty and ship him back, per Fabrizio Romano. United don’t want him; he’s off their radar for good.
If Sancho returns, United will be stuck with a player who’s lost his spark, draining wages and morale. His lackluster stint at Chelsea proves he’s not the fix United need. The Red Devils have to scramble to offload him again, wasting time when they should be building a squad that actually clicks. What a mess!
