Manchester United forward Amad has dropped a return hint about his potential return from injury on social media.

The winger sustained an ankle injury in training last month which Reds boss Ruben Amorim said at the time would keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season. The news was another huge blow to United during a difficult season with Amad the joint-second highest scorer this term with nine goals.

Amad featured in every Premier League game under Amorim up until the injury he sustained in February. It represented a marked change from his time under previous manager Erik ten Hag who overlooked the Ivorian on several occasions.

And the 22-year-old has hinted that a potential return to action could come soon. Amad posted a picture of himself on Snapchat alongside a sand timer and smiley face emoji as he works his way back to fitness.

Amorim recently shared his belief that there is an outside chance that the attacker could be available in May.

"Even Amad, we will see in the end of the last month," he said. "I don’t want to say anything but I have the hope to have Amad before the end of the season.

"Lisandro (Martinez) is out. Kobbie (Mainoo) can return. (Harry) Maguire we have to be careful. Manu (Ugarte) will return. I think Luke Shaw and Mason Mount can return also. They are definitely going to return, especially Mason Mount."

Amorim will hope to have his key attacker back for a crucial stretch of the season. United face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals next month as they eye an unlikely route back into the Champions League.

To do so, they will need to reach the final in Bilbao and win on May 21. Tottenham Hotspur, Rangers, Lazio and Athletic Bilbao are some of the other notable names left in the competition.
