Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis set to return tonight against the Boston Celtics, according to a report from The Athletic’s NBA insider Sam Amick.

Sabonis, who has been out for a week with a sprained ankle, is set to return much sooner than expected. After injuring his ankle on March 17th in a win versus the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings dropped two of their last three games.

Sabonis has been the de facto face of the franchise since the early February, when the Kings traded long time guard and franchise cornerstone De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs. Sabonis has been a source of stability for both players and the franchise as a whole, with his playmaking and post presence.

The Kings are still battling hard for a playoff spot as they’re currently ninth in the Western Conference with a 35-34 record. Sitting 1.5 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks, the Kings need every game possible to separate themselves from the pack and solidify their NBA Play-In appearance in 2022.

Sabonis has been a major contributor to their playoff push. Sabonis has averaged 19.2 points, a league leading 13.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game for a Kings team looking to build a playoff contender around himself, recently acquired Zach Lavine, and DeMar DeRozan. Sabonis is a key contributor to the King’s playoff hopes in 2025.

Domantas Sabonis set to return tonight against the Boston Celtics where they hope to make a late push to stay above the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks. Tipoff is at 10 PM as the Kings hose the reigning champion Celtics.
