Cam Ward Was the Talk of the NFL Draft on Monday

Cam Ward took center stage on Monday as members of all 32 NFL teams were present for Miami's Pro Day to watch the potential No. 1 overall pick show off his talented arm.

Ward, the ACC Player of the Year and Heisman Trophy finalist, elected to not participate in on-field drills at the combine in Indianapolis last month. That decision made Ward's pro day a must-attend event for league personnel.

The most notable moment from Ward's performance came on a roll-out to his left side for a deep pass. Without setting his feet, Ward put his talent on display by completing what appeared to be a throw of nearly 60 yards.

While Ward might have impressed on Monday, teams already have a good evaluation on the former Washington State transfer given his stellar senior campaign with Miami in 2024.

The 6-foot-2, 219-pound passer led the nation in touchdown passes (39) and finished second nationally in passing yards (4,313) with seven interceptions. Ward's efforts helped the Hurricanes finish first in scoring offense and total offense in the 10-3 season.

Some NFL fans took to social media to respond to Ward's performance at his pro day, specifically the off-balance throw that has since gone viral.

"Cam ward is gonna be a stud in the NFL!" one fan responded. "Great arm, good pocket awareness and great athleticism to get out of the pocket and make plays with his feet."

"He is a STUD!!," one fan wrote.

"We have a gunslinger," another wrote.

"Mr. Number 1 Pick," one added.

Others, of course, weren't as impressed with Ward. Some saw the choice of play similar to what former Penn State quarterback Zach Wilson did before rising up draft boards in 2021.

Wilson certainly turned heads that day and went on to become the No. 2 overall pick. But his career hasn't lived up to expectations, as Wilson is already on his third NFL team.

"The Zach Wilson payday throw," one wrote.

"Pro days are overrated. Look at Zach Wilson," one responded.

"When are we gonna stop hyping up pro days," one added. "Big, strong man throw ball far. That's all it is."

"Every QB looks good until they get hit in the face," another wrote.

Regardless of how fans may feel of Ward's draft stock, he will likely be the first quarterback taken and possibly the first overall pick to the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans have been linked to the elite prospect, who made sure to leave a note to Tennessee brass after completing a pass early in his workout.

"I said, ‘I'm solidifying it today,'" Ward said after his day was over.

The 2025 NFL Draft will take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
