NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Pelicans found a team even they could beat up on Monday (March 24), rolling over the Philadelphia 76ers, 112-99, at the Smoothie King Center.
On a night when top scorers Zion Williamson (sore lower back) and C.J. McCollum (rest) were out, the Pelicans (20-53) still managed a comfortable victory over a Sixers team (23-49) also missing its star players Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Karlo Matkovic scored 19 points to lead a list of five Pelicans who scored in double figures.
The balanced attack included contributions by Antonio Reeves (17 points), Yves Missi (16 and nine rebounds), Kelly Olynyk (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Keion Brooks Jr. (10 points).
Starting guards Jose Alvarado and Jordan Hawkins added nine points apiece.
The Sixers were led by Justin Edwards and Jared Butler, who matched Matkovic with a game-high 19 points each.
New Orleans outscored the Sixers 29-23 in the first quarter and built a 58-49 lead by halftime.
Philadelphia rallied early in the third quarter, fighting its way back to a 68-68 tie with 6:21 left in the period.
But the Pelicans went on a 35-14 run over the suddenly cold-shooting Sixers to surge to a 103-82 lead with 6:06 to play.
The Pelicans are off until Friday night, when they host the Golden State Warriors at the Smoothie King Center.
