Major transfer change in works
Premier League chiefs are reportedly set to hold talks over a potential change to the summer transfer window.
Last summer the transfer window closed on August 31, 2024, and this summer it will open officially on June 12.
However, new plans could see the 2025 summer window closed on August 14, two days BEFORE the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The measure, put forward in early February at a meeting between the sporting directors of Prem clubs, is not new to English football, having been introduced and later abandoned in 2018 and 2019.
Club chiefs will discuss the proposal in a meeting on Thursday, as reported by The Telegraph.
Passing the change will require a super-majority of 14 clubs, although if preliminary discussions indicate a lack of support it may be struck down before a vote.
The main argument in favour of the move is sporting directors believing the integrity of the league would be better served by stopping all trading before the season starts on August 16.
Additional discussions have proposed cutting the January transfer window down to just two weeks to minimise disruption to squads during the season.

Man Utd eye Trincao
Ruben Amorim is planning a summer return to Sporting Lisbon – for £35 million-rated winger Trincao.
The United boss has made signing a wide player a priority, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford unlikely to return to Old Trafford after their respective loans.
And Trincao, who scored twice for Portugal in Sunday’s 5-2 Nations League win over Denmark, is top of the United chief’s wanted list, after taking him to Lisbon during his days in charge.
The 25-year-old once had a £400m-plus buy-out when he moved to Barcelona, but he never really cracked it at the Camp Nou and ended up with a season on loan at Wolves.
After another one at Sporting, Amorim made it a permanent deal and his career took off after finally finding stability.
Trincao is generally a left-footed right winger, but can play on either flank and has also been used through the middle.
Newcastle and Arsenal have also been keeping tabs on him.
However, the biggest threat may come from Barca, who retain a buy-back option of little more than £20m.
But Amorim hopes their previous working relationship, and the chance to link up with his old manager, will sway Trincao towards Old Trafford.

'Not a problem'
Cristiano Ronaldo claims he has "no problem" with Rasmus Hojlund mimicking his iconic 'Siuu' celebration.
The Man Utd striker netted against Portugal last week in the first leg of the Nations League quarter-finals.
And Hojlund's celebration did not go unnoticed by the 40-year-old ex-Red Devil.
Ronaldo said: "For me, it’s not a problem.
"I know it wasn’t an act of disrespect. I’m smart enough to realise that."
On Sunday, Ronaldo got his revenge as Portugal stormed back from behind in the tie to win 5-3 on aggregate in Lisbon.

Hojlund to leave?
Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as a target for Napoli, according to reports.
The 22-year-old is being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford prior to the summer window.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Napoli want to sign him.
Man Utd allegedly want £50m for the striker, who is understood to be open to a return to Italy.
Napoli believe that convincing Hojlund to complete the switch will not be difficult.
Should the Denmark international swap United for Napoli this summer, it may open the door for a huge swap deal that could see Victor Osimhen head the other way.
